About Liminal Psychology

Our Story

We are a group of three psychologists who formed a deep friendship as we worked together for over a decade in a non-profit organization. When it was time for a change, we left our non-profit work and built a private practice in order to have more flexibility and freedom in our careers and our lives.

As psychologists, we practice independently but support one another in providing thoughtful and effective psychological care to our clients.

From our careers in the non-profit world, we draw skills of understanding and collaborating with a wide variety of people and concerns.

  • We hold a broad range of ideas and psychological expertise that we apply to support you and your family.
  • We are curious about people and enjoy learning more about ourselves and the world through our work.
  • We are compassionate, deeply skilled and experienced in different types of therapy.
  • We value being practical, speaking plainly, using humor and approaching each individual with a range of skills and a fresh perspective.

Our Practice

Liminal comes from the Latin word for “threshold”

— an in-between place or gap that happens when we have left one room or stage but have not yet entered the next. It is the space between what was and what comes next.

We’ve all known liminal times and places. Some are small and fleeting while others are wide and seemingly endless. These might be a transition between schools, a loss, a new diagnosis, or a changing relationship with someone we love.

In these spaces, our old ways of being and doing no longer serve us as they once did. We haven’t settled into new patterns of thinking, feeling, relating, and behaving. It is a place of waiting, transition, and not knowing. Liminal spaces can be scary and uncomfortable, but they are also places of transformation and new possibilities.

At liminal psychology, it is our work to accompany you while you navigate this threshold and work to uncover the path forward. We build a relationship with you for the purpose of understanding where you have been and where you hope to go.
